This is COLFUTURO’s main program. It was created
with the goal of allowing the most talented
Colombians to access postgraduate education in the
world’s best universities.
Thanks to this program, students can request a loan
of up to USD $50,000 for two years, to finance their
postgraduate studies. The recipients of the
Loan-Scholarship Program can obtain a 50% loan
waiver (25% for the area of administration).
To receive this benefit, beneficiaries must obtain
their degree, return to Colombia, and remain in the
country for twice the amount of time financed by
COLFUTURO, plus one year.
Within this unique program in Colombia, a rigorous
selection process has been developed using the
academic performance of the candidate and the
program he or she will undertake as selection criteria.
So far there have been 23 rounds of selection of
students who have represented Colombia in the
world’s best universities.
The experience and responsibility with which
COLFUTURO handles the selection process and
manage of the Loan-Scholarship Program have
consolidated this support model as a leading
initiative in Colombia and Central America.
In 2007, the first cooperation agreement was signed
between the national Ministry of Education, Icetex
and COLFUTURO. One year later, this agreement was
renewed by Colciencias, Icetex and COLFUTURO.
In 2009 it was established that the national
government would provide, for at least nine years,
the funds corresponding to the scholarship loan
waivers awarded to selected professionals in the
Loan-Scholarship Program.
With the aim of supporting more people, an additional
agreement was signed in 2013 by Colciencias
and Icetex to increase the number of Colombians
supported each year until reaching 2,000.
